The city of Hatvan is currently undergoing a major change with Bosch’s presence in Hungary creating the country’s largest industrial park, creating many new jobs. The investment will fundamentally change the attractiveness of the city for the area and is expected to influence the future needs and expectations of the local population or people working there. It is expected that a large number of professionals, managers or business partners will arrive at the site, and the traffic and attendance of the city will increase. There are new demands for services that are not yet provided, whether in daily life or in spending meaningful leisure time. It seems that the city administration and those involved in decision-making have thought through the opportunities ahead and preparations have been made in many areas for a successful future. As part of this process, the plan for the construction of a sports complex to be built in the immediate vicinity of the Crystal Castle, on the site of a former sugar factory, was completed in 2016, and this year marks the beginning of the investment.
According to information from Mayor Richárd Horváth, the number of tourists visiting the city has increased noticeably in the recent period. Naturally, this may have been influenced by the renovation of the castle building serving as the venue for the hunting exhibitions, and they intend to further stimulate this process by developing and creating destinations not only for the local population but also for tourists. Within this framework, the wildlife park will be renewed and developed, the railway history exhibition and the opening of a small railway are planned.
In view of the current developments, the city leaders have already noticed that there is a serious shortage of accommodation in the town, in almost all categories. Perhaps the most significant is in the area of residence for workers, but there is little access to other commercial accommodation. The phenomenon is already experiencing severe price rises and, although rents are rising sharply, this still does not solve the underlying problem.
The modern history of the town of Hatvan is inseparable from the activities of the baron Hatvany Deutsch, who also received the title of nobleman.
One of the most successful family investors and capitalists of the turn of the century, the flagship of the family, “Ignatius Deutsch und Son”, started a new sugar factory in Hatvan on the banks of the Zagyva in 1888. For centuries, the city that has made our city known throughout the world and has provided thousands of families in the area with livelihoods. However, much less was heard about the Hatvan Deutschs’ castle built here much later. Today it is close to the city center for centuries hiding behind the crowns of trees, the two-tower mansion looks like a jewel box to those who come here. The three-storey, high-roofed, historicist-style building follows the traditions of the villa architecture of the last century, which characterized the fashionable resorts of Transylvania or the High Tatras in the Franciscan Joseph’s “happy times of peace” as well as the Tyrolean and Voralberg pastures of Austria excursion sites.
History of Crystal Castle
When the Sugar Factory Castle in Hatvan was being built, it was intended as a residence for members of the Baron family who run the factory. Accordingly, the representative castle, accessible from the city by a tree-lined avenue, has been equipped with state-of-the-art amenities. Entering the main entrance, we reach a hall dominated by a Neo-Renaissance staircase. The ground floor might have been some of the larger halls, salons, smoking and working rooms, but certainly the kitchen and some of the staff rooms were located here. The spacious upstairs rooms, accessed via a spectacular staircase and with great views, served as the residence, residence and reception space for the Baron family. The building was surrounded by a small but carefully crafted English-style eclectic park, designed and maintained by excellent family-run gardeners. The trees, bushes, promenades, fountains of this small, green island were called upon
to hang the castle out of the surrounding buildings of the city and the factory. The Hatvani family, the factory and the castle are in the middle of the II. It began during World War II. The Hatvans had to flee first from the Nazi and then from the communist dictatorship that came to power after the war. The castle and the factory were nationalized in 1948. From this point on, half a century of deep flight began in the life of the castle. First, a large, 600-person kitchen was built, and then a factory nursery. Finally, for decades, as the Sugar Factory Culture Home, it played a role in the cultural and sporting life of the city population. These functional changes, utilitarian use that does not respect built-in values, have unfortunately resulted in a number of unprofessional exterior and interior conversions. After the change of regime, the privately owned building was still used as a hotel for a few years – after which it was given the Crystal Castle fantasy name – but it spent many years in an empty, empty, deteriorating state of technology.
Hatvan is 60 km from Budapest on the banks of the Zagyva stream. The city consists of several distinct parts of the city. Located on the eastern shore of Zagyva is Old Hattan, the actual center of the city. It is connected to it from the west, with the introduction of a smaller industrial area in New York. Also north of the Big Button Old Man.

There are multinational companies with foreign ownership employing thousands of people within a radius of up to 15 km. The largest of these is Robert Bosch Electronics Ltd., located about 2 km away.
We hope that with this activity we will find a solution to fill a segment of the market that really exists, and by implementing the plan, we will “give back” a seemingly lost value to the city of Hatvan, which will serve as a starting point for exploring the area and play a role in remembering the visit with positive impressions.
